What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a neurological difference and is categorised as a Specific Learning Difficulty. Although it primarily affects reading, writing, and spelling, it can also impact how people process and remember information they see and hear. This can affect learning, studying, and everyday tasks at work or in daily life. Dyslexia can also be associated with differences in areas such as memory, organisation, sequencing, processing speed, or co-ordination.
The assessment process will be carried out by our Certified Dyslexia Assessor and will confirm whether you meet the criteria for dyslexia. You will receive a detailed report outlining your strengths and areas of difficulty, along with practical recommendations to support you at work, in study, or in everyday life.
What happens before your assessment
Before the assessment, we will ask you to complete some background questionnaires to help us understand your history, current difficulties, and goals.
If you would like, we can also liaise with your employer, university, or training provider if this would be helpful, although this is not imperative to the process.
The day of the assessment
On the day of the assessment, you will complete a range of tasks in-clinic with our Specialist Dyslexia Assessor. These will look at areas such as:
- Reading, writing, and spelling
- Underlying ability
- Working memory
- Processing speed
- Phonological awareness
The assessment is designed to identify both strengths and areas of difficulty and to build a clear cognitive profile. The appointment usually lasts up to 3 hours.
After the assessment
You will receive verbal feedback following your assessment, confirming whether the assessment criteria for a formal diagnosis have been met. This feedback session gives you the opportunity to discuss the outcome and ask any questions you may have about the next steps.
In most cases, assessment results need to be carefully reviewed and scored by the clinician after the appointment. Because of this, the feedback session is usually arranged a few days after your assessment has taken place.
Following your feedback appointment, a comprehensive written report will be prepared and sent to you within 21 working days, detailing the full results, final outcome and recommendations.
Who carries out the assessment?
Your assessment will be completed by our Specialist Teacher and Certified Dyslexia Assessor who holds a currenty PATOSS SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate (APC), along with an MA in Education, Approved Teacher Status (ATS), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
Our assessor is trained to work with those in higher level education (college or university) as well as all adults up to the age of 65.
Fees
The full assessment, feedback session and formal report is £720 (inclusive of VAT).
