What happens after a diagnosis?
Receiving a formal diagnosis of ADHD or autism can bring up many different feelings. For some people it offers clarity, for others it can feel confusing, overwhelming, emotional, or even unsettling. Many adults find that alongside the diagnosis come lots of questions, such as:
- What does this mean for me?
- How can I make sense of my strengths and challenges?
- What practical strategies can help me in day-to-day life?
- How do I talk to others about this?
A diagnosis is often just the beginning of the journey. We offer post-diagnosis psychoeducation support sessions for adults who have received a diagnosis of ADHD or autism, whether that diagnosis was made in our clinic, through the NHS, or by another service.
What is psychoeducation?
Psychoeducation provides information, guidance, and practical support to help you understand your ADHD or autism profile and how it influences your thinking, behaviour, emotions, and daily functioning.
These sessions aim to help you:
- Understand your diagnosis in a clear, evidence-based way
- Make sense of your personal profile of strengths and challenges
- Access helpful resources and supports
- Build confidence in self-advocacy and decision-making
Psychoeducation is not therapy, coaching or counselling. It is focused on providing information and empowerment.
What happens in a session?
Our psychoeducation support sessions are one-off, 60-minute consultations provided by our psychologist who works within our ADHD/autism assessment team. You can attend on your own, or you are welcome to bring a partner, family member, or supporter if you wish.
During the session, we will:
- Talk through your diagnosis and what it means for you personally
- Explore common experiences linked to ADHD and/or autism
- Answer your questions in a supportive, respectful, and non-judgemental space
The session is designed to be informative, collaborative, and tailored to you.
Fees
Psychoeducation support sessions are 60 minutes long and cost £125 per appointment. In most cases, a single session is enough to provide clarity and guidance.
If, after the session, you feel you would benefit from ongoing support, options such as Neurodiversity Coaching, CBT or Counselling may be more suitable for longer-term development.
