Zero Tolerance Policy

The Adults’ Wellness Centre is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all staff, self‑employed Clinical Practitioners, clients and visitors. We operate a zero‑tolerance approach to threats, intimidation, harassment, verbal abuse, coercion or physical violence.

All staff members and self‑employed Associate Clinical Practitioners have the right to work without fear of abuse or aggression. Likewise, all clients have the right to receive services in a safe and professional environment based on mutual respect.

We recognise that adults accessing clinical services may at times experience distress or heightened emotional states. While we aim to be understanding and supportive, abusive or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Examples of Unacceptable Behaviour
The following behaviours are considered unacceptable, whether in person, by telephone, in writing or via electronic communication:
• Use of aggressive, abusive or offensive language
• Shouting, intimidation or threatening behaviour
• Any form of physical violence
• Verbal abuse or harassment
• Persistent or unreasonable demands that cause distress to staff
• Damage to, or theft from, premises, staff or other clients

Racial abuse, discrimination and sexual harassment will not be tolerated. Any such behaviour will be addressed immediately.

Managing Incidents
Where inappropriate behaviour occurs, staff may attempt to address the matter informally if it is safe and appropriate to do so. However, if behaviour continues or is serious, the organisation may:
• End or suspend appointments
• Terminate therapeutic or assessment services
• Restrict access to the premises
• Report the incident to relevant authorities, including the police, where appropriate
These actions are taken to protect staff, practitioners and clients, and to maintain professional standards of care.

Support and Reporting
The Adults’ Wellness Centre will support staff and practitioners who experience abusive or threatening behaviour. Incidents will be documented and reviewed, and appropriate action taken.

Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed as required, or where a situation occurs which necessitates amendment.
